Welcome to Fey Light News!
Hello! This is the first ever edition of Fey Light News. If you’re reading this, then chances are you’ve subscribed to our newsletter, playtested with us, or you’re a supporter of Orbital Debris and the junky moon crew, and you signed up to learn about more cool Mothership projects from its creators.
Well, that’s exactly what we have for you today, a brand new Mothership supplement! It’s called This Ship Is a Tomb and it launches on August 16, 2022.
But before we get ahead of ourselves, let us introduce you to the creators of the zine, and to Fey Light Studio.
Who Are We?
Fey Light Studio was started in 2020 toward the beginning of the pandemic. Like so many people we found ourselves with some extra time and decided to explore game design like we’d wanted to for a long time. Finally, we had our chance, and we leapt into creating adventures for D&D 5e for our Patreon.
After a few months of that, we decided to branch out and began making content for the indie games we loved. Taking it a step further, we began publishing short zines. Thus was born our first zines, including Chimneyhaus (for Mausritter), Daedalus Rising (for Lancer), and The Earth Above (for Mothership).
Since then, we’ve grown more confident and more ambitious. James ran a successful Kickstarter during ZiMo for a Wretched & Alone hack called What Foul Dust, and continues to contribute to the gorgeous, chaotic mess that is Orbital Debris, which is due out in a few months. Meanwhile, Isaac led the development of our first full ttrpg, a “crystal punk” “CaRdPG”, using a standard deck of cards as the resolution mechanic. James and Isaac then went to GenCon (in their hometown Indianapolis) and playtested the heck out of the new game.
Now, we’re ready for our first Kickstarter as a group, and we want you to be the first on board!
What is This Ship Is a Tomb?
Glad you asked. This Ship Is a Tomb is a procedurally-generated derelict crawl for Mothership. Inspired by the 90s classic, Event Horizon, the module utilizes a depth-crawl generation system developed by Emmy ‘Cavegirl’ Allen for her depth crawls, The Gardens of Ynn and The Stygian Library.
The ship generates from rolls on 3-4 tables (depending on your progress and rolls). The tables include Locations, Details, Events, and Encounters, and for each new location, you roll to see how the ship manifests as the crew moves forward.
A Warden can roll the locations in advance to speed things along, or roll them at the table and everyone can be surprised together as the next strange encounter begins. Either way, the zine will be chock full of bizarre and terrifying new creatures, diabolical challenges to solve, and many memorable horrors.
This Ship Is a Tomb will be a perfect bound, 68+page zine, as you can see from our work-in-progress mockups below:
